As the name implies, it's a language. I find it to be one of the
simplest, yet it can get very complicated. I don't believe there
is any compelling reason to write in pure assembly, other than to
get a kick out of it. :-)
You'll need an assembler. One of the most powerful and easiest to find
is called A86, however it is somewhat expensive shareware. Better I
think is to look for TASM or MASM, or use one of the free assemblers
available. To name a few: arrowsoft, nasm, wasm, magic and the very odd-
gas. NASM is the up and coming assembler, Arrow offers old MASM
compatiblity.
You can also use DOS's debug.exe as a crude assembler, an old book
called Assembly Language Primer (Lafore) uses debug to teach the
basics with.
