RG> Which part of the brake would you find inferior? The contruction, the

I was merely pointing out my disgust with the way the "imitation v-brakes"
are marketed as 'real' v-brakes. There is no distinction made between the
two. Point being that the unknowing (uninformed) customer in a store, having
heard about the almighty Shimano v-brakes, goes in, sees a comfortably priced
bike with "V-Brakes" and thinks he/she has done well...
My opinion is that they have been duped.
I don't recall saying that they were inferior. I might have implied it
ough.
Have you had the chance to see/try a bike with v-brakes on it? If you get a
chance, stop in a store and ask to see them. I think that the only distintion
made between the real Mccoys and the El-cheapos nowadays is that the real
ones are called XT or XTR V-brakes and the cheap ones are Alivio or LX
V-brakes (there are other names for both models but it is late and I am
getting sleepy)
