At Mail Call, DANIEL STARNES was heard saying to JIM SANDERS...
DS> Thanks for the info, Jim. What I was really looking for was
DS> information on how it handled and what it was like to fly one.
As it figures, Jim beat me to the punch for the most part on the
specs.
According to a av-buff friend of mine (who also has a supreme
interest in this bird), there are only five surviving F7Fs left in the
world today, and only one of those is in flying condition.
I had a chance to glance through the Signal F7F book this past
weekend, and it mentions a number of the aviation firms who flew
Tigercat as water bombers. I also listed the notable USMC squadrons
who flew the plane in my last message. You might want to consider
contacting a Marine Aviation group to see if they have any leads on
surviving pilots who were assigned to those units when they were
flying the Tigercat.
