AHA! On 24-Nov-96, I caught Scott Parks talking to Max Kolombos about Netware
3.12 and TCP/IP
MK>> My problem is this delay. It could possibly be a problem on
MK>> the Linux side of things - but I'm wondering if anyone out
MK>> there has had similar problems, or can offer any thoughts on
MK>> what's proving to be an annoying problem.
SP> Just a guess ... but at a recent NT seminar it was suggested that
SP> these delays (also connecting to Netware servers) can be caused by
SP> your protocol binding order in 95/NT. You might put TCP/IP first
SP> and Netbeui last (or remove it).
Yes. I've actually removed NetBEUI and same thing happens - but so does
it when I remove IPX/SPX and leave just TCP/IP. The fact that the delay
still happens under Win 3.11 and with TCP/IP seems to me to point to a
problem with Linux (even though I've had an expert check over my system,
and they pronounced it okay!) - possibly the network card.
Anyway, I'm still slightly confused about the Netware TCP/IP and SNMP
NLMs. I understand that I don't need them loaded if I'm just doing this
local referencing - do I only need it when I want to use the file server
as a router out to the Internet? Or does it have some other use in my
context?
