The point of the message I sent was to tell you about __WD_Present.  The
sleep has nothing to do with your problem. For example:

        if( __WD_Present )
                _asm int 3      // i'll let you do the "aux" :-) }

Work around a bug in the watcom debugger -- when any thread ends,  it
assums the whole process has!
