You are correct, you could not be a cop. You would not be able to enforce the
drug laws you would be sworn to enforce. Further, you would be fired when
they found out you smoked marijuana. In your particular case, you would be
correct, ethically, you could not be a cop. It is no surprise that the vast
majority of police officers have no ethical problem at all in enforcing the
drug laws. Those officers who do have a problem enforcing the drug laws are
probably users, and their careers will be very short.
