-=> Tom Young took a called strike three for saying to Mark Yoder <=-
TY> Suspended games stats count for players, even though they might not
TY> figure in the standings. If two games were halted by weather or
TY> darkness or time (can't start an inning after a certain hour) and not
TY> completed (say they were the last game of two series) if the
TY> completion of the games would not affect the pennant winner, the games
TY> would not be completed, but would be counted as a game played and the
TY> stats count for the players.
Suspended games are almost always completed later in the season, and the
records from the game (both the original part and the part after the
suspension) count. Usually, the completion of the game doesn't depend on
whether or not the game affects the standings. Suspended games always
show up in the standings.
The usual reasons for suspending a game are: lighting failure,
sprinkler malfunction, curfew. One famous game was suspended due to pine
tar.
Games are NOT suspended because of weather. Games are STOPPED because of
weather. If the game is a legal game (losing team had 5 at bats), the game
counts in the standings and records are retained, or is a legal tie game.
The game is NOT resumed at a later date. If it is not a legal game, it
does not count in the standings and the records from the game are not
counted. Tie games, and games stopped before they are legal, are
rescheduled and replayed from scratch, unless they are late in the season
and don't affect the penant races.
