Welp... we did it. The LSD (I like that) paid a consultant from Florida to
write their entire district wide 504 plan. Includes eval, written prior
notice, behavior mods, class mods, LST, etc. Over 50 pages of procedure that
will be in effect ASAP. She would not give me a copy as she claims it is
copyrighted... wait until it is implimented in the school district, it
becomes public property then as district policy.
The children rights activist that has worked for over 15 years to get the
law followed and implimented correctly physically cried during the meeting
and hugged me afterwards, thanking me for being stubborn enough to push them
into a corner and not back off. I could have never done it without him. He
stood beside me through the threats, hard nosed crap, etc. Another OCR filed
brought the hiring of two ESL teachers (english second language) into the
district. Slowly, ever so slowly they are changing things. Probably because
there is a beligerant red head pushing them every step of the way.
I think the biggest thing that changed it all was my attitude towards them.
I did not fall for anything, had it all in writing and stepped on toes,
foreheads, whatever it took to keep pushing the law back at them. I think you
knew about the threat of filing child abuse charges against me and attempts
to discredit my wife. I am not through with the principle and the district
special ed director agrees that the principle was wrong. (if you have a
secured netmail address I will send you a copy of the letter I am sending to
the local superintendant in WP format)
They tried to pull an IEP meeting today. (today was to review the 504 policy
that was a stipulation in our OCR complaint) The lady said "while we are all
here let's go over the IEP"
Show me written prior notice
end of discussion.
Take care guy, we can win if we just keep pushing.
