Add the following to your config.sys:

                   DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\ANSI.SYS

 JD> No external programs/dos programs errored out with usual not an 
 JD> os2 application message. So frontdoor works, and spitfire works.

I asked you this in NetMail a few mintues ago, but I'm going to ask again
here in the Echo; Are your versions of FD and Spitfire DOS or OS/2?  And
indeed, we're wandering off-topic with this thread.  Perhaps it should be
continued in either OS/2 or COMP-OS2-MISC.
