I rarely have to reboot my linux system... I do have to take _bbbsd_ down now
and then and restart it.. Have you tried that rather than rebooting?

I check my logs often and when I see a particular obnoxious bot type
connection, I use this IPTables line:

iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -m string --string "yandex.com" --algo kmp -j REJECT

Works over here... you would of course replace yandex.com with the nasty bot
hitting you :)  Hope this helps..
