Having confronted Dr. All, Paul Andinach, International Man Of Mystery,
exclaimed:
PA> A more unusual offshoot of the discussion was a brief diversion,
PA> triggered by Jack Ruttan, into the question of whether the Borg stole
PA> "Resistance is futile!" from their Doctor Who predecessors, the
PA> Cybermen. For the record, the Cybermen never used the phrase. It was,
PA> however, used by a Dalek in the 1964 story "The Dalek Invasion of
PA> Earth".
Who in turn stole it from 40's series and 50's B-movies. They in
turn undoubtedly stole it from the sci-fi short stories from the 20's
and 30's. Who knows who first used those words in those combinations,
and who cares? Dr. Who and Star Trek readily borrowed and were inspired
from each other. This shows a respect by the producers of both series
for the others work. I have always found distasteful this tendency by
some sci-fi and fantasy fans to grab on to one production and hate all
others.
Sincerely Yours
