Thats an interesting argument. I have reasons to doubt that the tarrif
would generate *any* net jobs at all; its likely to destroy as many jobs in
other sectors as it creates. Essentially, consumers have less to spend on
other goods after they pay the higher prices for the tarrif protected goods
, and exporters suffer from higher costs of imported inputs and a higher
exchange rate.
The latter is hurting Japan at the moment; the Yen is being driven up to an
all time high against the dollar by Japanese trade restrains, which hurts
the efficient bits of the Japanese economy (eg electronics exports) in
order to shelter the inefficient bits (eg agriculture).
