subject: salt in tank?????

RD> NEVER use regular kitchen salt. Regular salt has iodine in it that
RD> can kill the fish. What you want to look for is NON-IODIZED salt.
RD> You can still find it in the grocery store, usually right next to
RD> the iodized table salt. And, yes, you always want to add some of
RD> this to a new tank. Add about a teaspoon for each 10 gallons. And
RD> remember that the salt does not evaporate, so you don't need to add
RD> any when you top off your tank. Just when you do a water change.
what purpose does the salt serve? i've never added salt of any kind to my
tanks... at least, not knowingly...
