Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to this.
Life got in the way:-)
I have just changed my vehicle after getting 800,000 kilometers out of her.
My biggest problem was the non-serviceable parts ie:
the collar on the commutator of the alternator only lasting one and one half
sets of brushes ( there was so little metal from new). Conrod bearings
which have been electro-plated on so they cannot be relaced.
I do imagine that if you are talking about a Austin Champ or a Bedford or
a Unimog then yes, I believe there is significant merit in what you say.
All the vehicles mentioned can have their cylinder sleeves reveresed if
needed! Hence you have a vehicle built for durability.
Though, it seems to me, that there are very few of these made today:-)
