LD> Greetings to all:
(truncated for brevity...)
LD> with breakfast. Schooltime morning ritual is up by 7, dress before
LD> coming downstairs, eat, brush, make bed, med at 8, ready to go out
LD> the door at 8:15. He's fallen into the summertime habit, which is
LD> fine for most of the summer, but now it's time to get his act back
LD> together, and he's being verrrrrry resistant. I hate mornings, too,
LD> but, still, I have to get back to work myself in those same three
LD> weeks.
LD> Any helpful suggestions on getting back on track? BTW we are a
LD> family of 4 with a little sister who is almost 4 years old. I am
LD> thankfully partnered so I don't have to carry this alone, but I also
LD> have the 4- year-old to get ready in the morning. HELP!
You've gotta take away something that he *really* values.
Tell him that after he finishes the routine you'll give him
back his article of affection. This has worked really well
with my 9 year old boy. F.I. he really enjoys watching
cartoons when he's eating breakfast, But his bed must be
made earlier in the scheme of things, after dressing and
before he comes to the table. I'd suggest that you have him
get all upstairs requirements done first (save brushing).
This will give YOU more leverage in getting him to cooperate
easily. Only send him back up to brush, make sure that
everything else has been accomplished before he eats.
Good luck and remember that they will grow up and move out
eventually!
