Ok, thanks for the explaination. I hope you can understand that looking
ONLY for equipment which is so close to the CB frequencies DOES tend to
raise Ham's suspicion. If you had asked for a low-cost 80-10 Meter rig,
the alarms might not have gone off. And you don't HAVE to have a rig to
get a Ham license any more than youo HAVE to have a car to get a driver's
license, (but it sure is nice!) ;->

(Mounting soap box...)

On the other hand, a LOT of new Hams never got their first transmitter
or tranciever until AFTER they had their callsign. (I recently helped
a new Ham get his first tranciever - about 3 weeks after his license
was issued.) And believe me, I KNOW what it's like to have that piece
of paper in my hand and no transmitter!

Personally, I believe it is best to get a receiver and monitor the bands
for some time, at least a few months, even before you take your first
license test. You can learn a lot about procedures and what is and isn't
done on the air. (It is _NOTHING_ like CB!) This will help you avoid
making a lot of mistakes when you do finally get on the air. Also,
hearing the Hams talking back and forth will add that much to your
excitement and help you to get into learning all you can. Also, unless
you are just going for the no-code license, the best code practice there
is is listening on the air!

Sorry, I know this is off-topic. Hopefully it will make you a better
Ham. Good luck with your license and finding what you need to get on
the air.

Catch you later... Happy Hamming es 73 DE KB9QPM.
