EMX is free, and (having used both), I prefer EMX.

They could have thrown EMX on the developer's toolkit.  The only
distribution "hitch" is they have to include source code (which
they could have advertised as a bonus, really.)  Whole thing zipped
(including the source code) is around 15 megs.  They even could have
included the compiler itself unpacked and usable (like on the hobbes CD)
for another 10 megs or so.

Now THAT would have been a promotion.  Not just directly, but with a BOOM
of available software for the platform.
