I don't disagree with anything you posted, but to my mind there are two
classes of problems, the kind that are common and the kind that are rare. I
prefer to set things up so the common ones are easy to deal with.

Deleting calls sounds like something that would be done fairly regularly,
restructuring the system sounds like something that would be rare.

Also, the guy who has the power to restructure the system is also the guy
who has the power to "move" a database .

that said, I do understand that simple is better most of the time, but that
holds true for recovery procedures as well. Most people don't try to make
recovery simple.
