you got it. I can't claim credit here but this a message I d/l'd from a
telegard msg base, maybe it will help you or others.

How to set up and use the new NetModem version 2.0

 Needed items:

NetModem version 2.0 available at http://www.allensoftware.com
Fossil Driver version 1.46 available at http://www.digsys.se

Note: I could not get BNU or X00 to correctly initialize the modem
in my BBS software. The author of NetModem has suggested using it.

If you have any previous installations of NetModem (16) or version 1.4
you must completely remove the program and use the utility called FIX.ZIP
This utility will remove NetModem from your registry in Win9x. Also re-boot
 before starting any installation.

Un-zip NETM_2A2.ZIP into a temp directory and run Setup.exe to begin the
installation. After completion and re-booting your computer. You will need
to go to "Settings" and your "Control Panel" to set up NetModem.

There are basically 5 sections and you want to use a Comm port that your
not using, as this will be a "Virtual Port"

 Section 1: Server

[ ] Start as system service [ ] Explicit bind to address
            [ ] Suppress splash screen [ ] Allow unknown hosts *
            [x] Auto-minimize on startup [ ] Display busy file *
[x] Enable spinning globe [ ] Display offline file *
[x] Server logging [x] Fake activity
[x] Server activity [10] minute intervals
               [x] User activity
               [x] Winsock activity [x] Enable Auto-News
               [ ] Event activity * [ ] Not ready! *

            [x] Retrieve local host info

               Advanced

Available IRQ [9] Ring count [3]

Internal cache size TX/RX buffer size
                [ 2048KB ] [ 2048KB ]

 * meaning not used or disabled.

The above is pretty much the default settings. Don't check "Start as system
service" as there is a problem saving your configuration settings. What
will happen is as you re-boot the computer. An error message will pop up
warning you that NetModem is not properly configured and you must go to the
Control Panel to configure it. Leave the box un-checked and you will be
 fine.

Please note that the "Available IRQ" is adjustable and you need to select
one that in not in use.

 Section 2: Options

         [ Node 1 ] (x) Enabled ( ) Disabled

         [ ] Caller ID * [ ] Front-end mode *
         [ ] Call Block * [ ] Display duplicate file *
         [ ] Call Forwarding * [ ] Display blocked file *
         [ ] Allow dupe connections * [ ] Display connect file *
         [ ] Activity log * [ ] Display disconnect file *
         [ ] Play sound on connect [ ] Display error file *
[ ] Play sound on disconnect [ ] Software compression
[ ] Play sound on error [ ] Limit bandwidth

 * meaning not used or disabled.

 ===========================================================================

 Section 3: Comports

         [ Node 1 ]

         COM1
         COM2
         COM3
         COM4
COM5 <---[Default] Just make sure it's not in use.
         COM6
         COM7
         COM8

         Emulation Baudrate Internet port
         [UART] [57600] [23]

         UART Options Fossil Options
                                          [x] Always active
         Base/hex address [x] Locked baudrate
         [ 02A0-02A7 ] [ ] Manage time-slice

         Buffer size Buffer size
         [ 2048 KB ] [ 2048KB ]

The Com Port you select will be the "Virtual Port" and should not be
any ports your using like a mouse or modem. Make a note of the com
and Base/hex address as these settings must be used in your BBS software
 settings.

 Section 4: External Files

         [ Node 1 ]

         Connect.WAV
         [ ]

         Connect display file *
         [ ]

         Disconnect display file *
         [ ]

         Error display file *
         [ ]

 * meaning not used or disabled.

While this section does offer sound, I noticed it didn't work. Personally
I would recommend to disable this if you like getting a good night's sleep.

 ===========================================================================

 Section 5: Backup

                              [ Backup ] [ Restore ]

Make a Back up of your configuration or Re-store your settings. Pretty
 handy...

 ===========================================================================

 Setting up your BBS Software.

I need to speak in General as every BBS software package is different and
 some are easier than others.

NodeModem (Demo/Shareware) version needs to be NODE 1

What I did for my regular dial-in users. I configured my Front-end Mailer
and BBS software as Node 2 and made Node 1 a "Telnet" only node.

My example is for Renegade but several other software can be configured in
the same way. Renegade command: renegade -n1 -l

 System configuration:

 A. Main BBS Configuration       -->>>    B. Modem/Node Configuration
 C. System ACS Settings D. System Variables
 E. System Toggles F. File System Configuration
 G. Subscription/Validation System H. Network Configuration
 I. Offline Mail Configuration J. String Configuration
 K. Color Configuration L. Archive Configuration
 M. Credit System Configuration

 1. Time allowed per day 2. Max calls per day
 3. UL/DL # files ratio 4. UL/DL K-bytes ratio
 5. Post/Call ratio 6. Max downloads per day
 7. Max download kbytes per day 8. Update System Averages

 Enter selection (A-M,1-8) [Q]uit :
 Modem/Node Configuration

 1. Maximum baud rate: 57600 2. Port number : 5
 3. Modem init : ATV1S0=0M0E0H0| 4. Modem answer : ATA|
 5. Modem hangup : ^ATH0| 6. Modem offhook : ATH1|
 7. COM port locking : Off 8. Digiboard support: Off
 9. CTS/RTS flow : On A. XON/XOFF flow : Off
 B. Drop file path : C:\RENEGADE\NODE1\ C. ACS for this node:
 D. TeleConf Normal : J. Answer on ring : 1
 E. TeleConf Anon : K. MultiRing only : Off
 F. TeleConf Global :
 G. TeleConf Private :
 H. IRQ string : 9
 I. Address string : 2a0
 R. Modem result codes

 Enter selection (1-9, A-K, R) [Q]uit :

 ===========================================================================

Here is my batch file to run the node.

 cd\netmodem
 netmodem
 cd\adf
 adf com5 2a0 9 57600 8192 8192 8
 cd \renegade
 SET WCPORTID=5
 SET WCNODEID=1
 SET WCIRQID=9
 SET WCBASEID=2a0
 renegade -n1
 cd\adf
 adf unload

 ===========================================================================

The variable environment settings are not required by NetModem but used
 for running some doors.

I hope this will help some of you!!

I want to thank Dedrick Allen for all his help in answering my questions.
