| subject: | Proxy & DUN management |
From: Chris Robinson Hello all and Happy New Year! I need to pick your brains about a couple of things. I have a win2k server set up as a domain controller. It also acts as a DHCP server and DNS server for the LAN. I recently got an ISDN line that I'd like to share. I have the ISDN adapter installed and the connection set up and tested - it's all OK. I've already tried a couple of things to share the connection but not had much luck. I tried using INternet Connection sharing in Windows but it didn't work (some PC's are pre-Win98SE and so won't work with ICS anyway). I tried some software called iproxy which seamed to work intermitently with the Web but I had absolutely no luck configuring it for email. I've also tried Sygate networking which completely screwed up the DHCP etc on the server (Sygate took over as DHCP server etc) - luckily I took a backup before trying this. I also need to be able to control the DUN connection so it's only connected suring certain times of the day. I've used DUNManager before and was quite impressed so I'll probably use that unless someone can sugget something better or some freeware? for now, the main thing is the Internet connection sharing (for Web, E-Mail mainly). Can anyone suggest a way of doing this. It must be cheap/free so a hardware solution is out of the question.
