BL> The US Justice Department has moved to block Microsoft's planned $2
BL> billion takeover of INTUIT, maker of Quicken personal finance software
BL> - the largest software acquisition ever. The Justice Department has
BL> said that the move would lead to higher software prices and less

ROFL...
Here's a good one for you. It's the opening para from the editors
comment of Windows/DOS Developer's Journal, April 1995. In case I
haven't yet convinced David, Roy, Frank, and others here who are
sometimes serious about their work, this is the BEST magazine in the
world for windows programmers. Anyway, the editorial starts thus...
At Software Development 95, Microsoft had a bug sign labeled
"Ask the Developer", and you could walk up and ask product questions
of someone who actually helped develop the product. It dawned on me
that Microsoft was missing a major money-making opportunity.
All they had to do was buy a bunch of Nerf bats, charge
$5 per person, and change the name to "Whack the
Developer."
What windows developer would not pay $5 to whack the
designer of GDI, or the author of DDEML ? Most programmers I talked
to agreed that Microsoft could make a(nother) fortune this way, but
C/C++UJ Managing Editor Marc Briand cautioned, "I think that could
get out of hand pretty quick."
I'm telling you guys, if you don't subscribe to this mag you are nuts.
Roy, it's funnier than Hairbutt the Hippo, and every issue is really
packed with _useful_ information, techniques, and samples that work
with every C compiler ( Borland C++, M$ C++, Symantec C++, Watcom C++).
Although, I have to admit that I'm starting to think it is worth the
subscription costs simply for the editorial and book reviews.
Cheers, Brenton
