This one's a back-of-the-truck model too, though I have no idea what vintage
it is. And the fridge is two-way as well, normal line power or gas, but
not 12 volt. :-(

That sorta got me too when we had a gas fridge back when I was a kid, as to
how heating something could make something else get colder.
It's all a matter of "stuff" absorbing a lot of BTUs when it changes state
from liquid to gas, or vice versa.
