| subject: | Best message base format? |
Hello mark. 24 Jan 96 13:56, mark lewis wrote to Paul Edwards: ml> why is a time arrived field a necessity? it's not... Necessity no, but its very useful, say you take a large international echo, and you purge messages after 15 days. Now I write to you in that echo, and the message takes 16 days to reach you, with Hudson (Or any other message base format that doesnt have a date arrived field) its possible you would never see that message since it would be deleted straight away (Since its older than 15 days), with JAM (Or message base formats with an date arrived field), the message would be purged on the date it /arrived/ on your system (Not the date it was written) so you would have 15 days to read it before it would be purged. Thats the reason I now never use a message base format that doesnt have a Date arrived field.
