JF> Well, they're awfully intriguing, and this is from a relatively
JF> early Next Generation article. I know for sure that it uses a Hitachi
JF> 200 MHz, 64-bit RISC CPU and the PowerVR SG next-generation
JF> 3D chip ("better than Model 3," they always say). I've
JF> heard its CD drive is anywhere from 4X (still good compared
JF> to today) to 12X speed, its RAM is anywhere from 8-16 MB
JF> (probably towards the higher end of the scale), and it may
JF> or may not have a modem. I hear the controllers have a
JF> "Tamagotchi-quality" LCD screen that lets you do various
JF> things - such as, possibly, choosing plays privately in a
JF> football game.
JF> Basically, Sega's trying to give everyone a decent reason
JF> to try their system, or so it would seem.
All that for the magic price of $200 dollars. The psx has only
2 megs of ram. 64 only has 4. (8 with DD) That sounds pretty good. But
I probably won't get another console 'til psx 2. They are the best, I
admit that now. Their games rock.
JF> By the way, according to Troy, there have been about 63
JF> titles for the Jaguar.
64 should have about that much by now. There is a ton of games coming
out soon.
DM> Maybe because it was realeased in the middle of the year. Most systems
DM> are realeased in the august to october range.
JF> I think so. The same thing happened with the Saturn - by
JF> the time it came out, it was "old hat" and not quite the
JF> money magnet.
The only thing tht looked half good on Saturn was nights. I hated it
though. Besides all the good ports that made it on to the Saturn
went to playstion too.
DM> Well devolpers can't release anything for other OS's because it
DM> would be too much of a risk. It's WIN95 or NT, or nothing.
JF> Well, technically programs ARE released for other OSes -
JF> you can run Quake II on Linux, GL-accelerated even, by
JF> downloading a few files. Crack dot Com's Golgotha will
JF> even have the ability to run on Linux right out of the box!
JF> huge Mac or Linux sections in stores.
Yeah but how may people actually play Quake 2 in Linux? about
maybe 5% of all quake 2 player maybe.
JF> I didn't ever really see ads, but I heard a lot about
JF> them. For what you were getting, I hear it was good. I
JF> believe Capcom's doing ports of 2D fighters on the PSX that
JF> probably would have run more smoothly on a Neo Geo. Of
JF> course, there were no 3D features, but still...
I remember seeing some ads for their games. Don't they have
Samurai showdown 64?
