subject: WHICH IS BETTER

Disneyland vs. Walt Disney World is the topic for many electronic
debates. I've been to both--they are both a blast, but they are
different kinds of places, and hard to compare one-to-one.
Disneyland is just one Park (for now, the California Adventure is a few
years off). Add two hotels connected by trams and monorails and you're
done with the Disney properties. DL is surrounded by urban development,
so the transition from magic to normal is pretty sudden.
Walt Disney World *is* huge! Twice the size of San Francisco, if that
helps any. It includes three major parks (with a fourth to open next
year), three water parks, several minor parks, two shopping complexes,
sixteen hotels and a campground.
The three major parks include the "Magic Kingdom", which is very much
like the Disneyland park, only about 20% larger; "Epcot" which inlcudes
'Future World' which is a kind of permanent worlds fair, and 'World
Showcase' where eleven separate pavillions spotlight the culture,
architecture, music, and food of different countries; and "Disney/MGM
Studios" (soon to become just "Disney Studios") which combines park
attractions like DL or MK and attractions based on filmmaking with a
working live-action studio (mostly TV, but some films) and an animation
studio. Most films today are made on location, so relatively little
film shooting is done in *any* studio.
The Great Debate of DL vs. WDW is often reduced to DL vs. Magic Kingdom.
There isnt much contest, as Disneyland is clearly better. The MK
attractions are fewer and many are smaller, except for the Carousel of
Progress and one or two others. MK's 'Mickey's Toontown' can't hold a
candle to DL's 'Toontown.'
OTOH, if you contrast all of Walt Disney World to DL, there *still*
isn't any contest. The much greater space, the two extra major Parks,
the minor parks, and the fact that the great distances at WDW keep the
magic safely away from the normal makes it a whole different experience.
You can stay "on-property" and eat, sleep, and party Disney 24 hours a
day until all the numbers are rubbed off your credit cards.
Um, does that answer your question, or do I need to pound it into the
ground a little more?
