I remember hearing about 2 years ago that there were going to be 4(!)
separate box sets, each with 4 CDs. I never believed it. That *might*
work for a big popular act like The Beatles, but not Genesis, especially
since the majority of the public is only going to be interested in later
material. Of course, I'd buy 'em, but I ain't normal :-)
I then heard that it was to be 3 box sets. Now, I think it's possibly
2. The new GTR King Biscuit Flower Hour CD has a mention of Hackett
working on 2 separate boxed sets. This is what I figure would finally
get released: one set for 1969 to 1977 and one set for 1978 to present.
I'm most interested in the B sides and live stuff. There's *A LOT* of
this stuff out there. A few years back, there was a large 3 CD bootleg
set called _From One Fall To All Others_ with the 1970 BBC sessions and
a complete Lamb concert. The sound quality is absolutely stunning on the
1970 sessions (included "Pacidy," "Let Us Now Make Love," "The
Shepherd," "Looking For Someone," and "Stagnation," all recorded before
the release of _Trespass_. There's also am incredible performance of
"The Musical Box" with Hackett and Collins that has much better sound
quality than that on _Nursery Cryme_. This version is longer, too --
they extend the midlle section about 2 minutes. It's all of this that I
really want to see make the box set. Maybe BBC can put it out. They've
been doing a lot of that recently.
HS> The ban news is that this Box Set is being delayed further and
HS> further, an the moment it is believed to come Autumn 1998. The
HS> official word is something like "... we promise it will be released
HS> eventually".
HS> But the new Genesis album is due to be released on Monday :-)
Is it out now? I heard a song on the radio today that might have been
them. It sounded like a Banks solo song -- very similar to "Red Day On
Blue Street" from _Still_.
