I have never used these particular batteries except in wee units, and
may soon retire the 8 year old wet battery from our invalid scooter/
garden tractor.
Surplus UPS gels are increasingly available up to 12v 38 amp hours.
Will someone please quote makers' recommendations re:
* Equalising [boost charge] as a maintenance routine
* Testing of discharge capacity
Re discharge capacity, the Standards for conventional batteries made work for
the test department, because a variable load was used so as to hold amps at a
standardised value [eg the Ten Hour Rate]. The resistor bank had to be
iddled
constantly, lowering the ohms as the volts ramped down. At a particular low
voltage the test would be stopped eg at 1.85v/ cell.
I imagine that the factory process for gels, is like that for other sealed
types ie a single load resistor connected so that load amps would ramp down
s
battery discharged.
