Hi, John;

Re; the 440 HT... Having a problem finding rocks for it... the durn
things are soldered in! (I was hoping for sockets)...

ANYway, what do you know about the charger? I bought a new 24 V 2 Amp
xfmr for it and put it in, (after checking every diode in the thing -
they all check good!), put in a new 1/2 A SB fuse, plugged it in and
dropped tradio in it. About 3-4 minutes later I smelled something
warm - unplugged it, opened it up and out fell 2 1-watt resistors which
had come unsoldered from the board! Everything in there was so hot,
(including the bottom, which serves as a heat sink), it was hard to
hang onto! SHEESH! I pray nothing major is fried!

Do you have ANY info on the problems the charger has beyond "a diode
and soon the transformer" as you mentioned? Is there any service
literature available for it anywhere?

Close examination of the inside of the redio reveals only one place
where there appears to be room to mount an external charging jack:
right next to the earphone jack. Not the ideal place, but it will be
satisfactory.
