SA> As far as I know the person who banned you is still banning you, Yes and he makes nice for a time with me than when I do not take the bait he goes right back to character, or more apropriately lack of same in stirring stuff up among his group of followers. I note with some dismay in his postings of his NNTP server he posts not only the names of his users but also the IP addresses of same with one such user named ogg? Presumably taken from the copy writed mp3 compressed sound format and adopted as a user name from the freeware ogg compressed music file format. SA> and SA> none of his echoes (as listed in the current echolist) are linked here, SA> or pass through here. Not worth the hassle, as Fido slowly passes into SA> history. Thanks for the reply. Again, had I know beforehand the result I would not have posted there from your BBS. Still if Doc's Place goes down I can still get my Linux fix there. I was told by someone that the mod of the echo was in another zone but was concerned those moderator privilages were dealt with in differing zones by different moderators and so thus I shall not presume to post to fidonews from yet another suggested BBS in Scotland. WC> Don't worry as I won't post to that echo from your BBS, nor WC> any others suggested to me by someone. WC> Fidonet is dying quite fast enough without my enabling WC> someone to speed its demise. SA> There was a time when I was a "true believer" in Fido, as it was much SA> better (IMO) than Usenet & the like, but the various blog sites & It WAS IMO. It started its death spiral IMO about six years ago when a fellow by the name of Collins in the COMM echo and others stopped participating. SA> blog software (such as Thingamablog) make it easy for anyone to set up SA> their own special interest blogs, or post on those that match their SA> interests. phpbbs does a good job of allowing lots of topics like SA> echomail, and under local admin control, without the need to deal with SA> Fido's "elf lords". Yeah, isn't that _something_. WC> There are still a number of quality individuals posting in an ever WC> diminishing number of echos. SA> The idea of FidoNet is still good, but ease of setup & access to the SA> web-based alternatives has made it largely irrelevant, much like CB SA> Radio, which was big here about 40 years ago. Never cared for CB myself dispite having owned one or two I repaired. I did almost venture into the HAM radio sector and had most of the then required morse code dealt with as well as enough study to pass for a general class license. SA> Mobiles pretty well killed that off. Even I have one or two, but SA> don't remember the number :) No point in joining that Scottish BBS then and it's got limited fidonet echos. The stroke took out my recollection the passwords to many of the BBS's I'm already a member of and the same pesky mod that banned me from fidonews, no netmail and initially at least merely a suspension of unspecified length he merely would not divulge that. Got me banned from another BBS by posting a *private netmail* to him in of all places the Linux echo. That resulted in the loss of BBS usage of that board as well as being banned from the Linux echo until I pointed out to Scott Little it was he who posted that private netmail there and not I. Someone from the originating BBS also had had a habit of posting in my name as well though I've never been nor ever will be a member of that BBS now news server. Origin line of the fraudulent Wayne Chirnside, The Eastern Star. So who is to say if I was banned for one of my posts or that of the fraud as the text of the post nor reason for then suspension ever made known to me. Same origin line: Eastern Star. As that moderator now disclaims he's running a BBS in favor of NNTP I wonder just how justified his claim upon moderator status is in the first place? You know I did in fact apologize for my rude and inappropriate behavior in the fidonews echo which was the result of a stroke causing me to lose control of my ability to control my emotions for some four years when prodded by none other than you know who. Kicking a man while he's down is a characteristic I've the utmost contempt for and despite my rather large size something I never once engaged in. In fact I've been violence adverse all of my life and being of rather large size and able to take a punch as if nothing never actually have resorted to ever really gotten into a serious fight and at that NEVER a fight initiated by myself. Oftimes merely taking a hit or two and just smiling was enough for the other to run along to some other business elsewhere. Fine by me. Too bad though as fidonews has some rather intelligent and well spoken individuals still in it. Mostly from abroad and outside the U.S.A. with spare exception however :-( ...
