It's true that you don't HAVE to give someone else your proxy, you are
free to show up at the annual meeting personally and make a bloody
nuisance of yourself!
I seem to recall reading about something called a proxy fight. If a
group doesn't like the way a company is being run, it can publicly
announce that it wishes to replace the management, and solicits
shareholders to send them their proxy. Management also solicits
shareholders who LIKE the way the company is run to send THEM their
proxies.
Or something like that . . .
