Hola, Blanca!
BA> I like George of the jungle. I think it's hilarious. (Sp?) I love
BA> that show!
Me too! I remember when it was first on television, and I'm going to
see it this week.
>>
BA>CK> The animation involving the hydra fight was very well done.
BA> Oh yes, I for gat all about the hydra. :)
I agree with Carol, the Hydra was pretty good. The animators say they
had to work hard to make it look less real and more cartoon-like. I
don't think it's as good as some other computer work. Both the crowd
scenes in 'Hunchback' and the wildebeast stampeed in 'The Lion King'
were blended into the conventional animation more smoothly, IMHO.
And 'Toy Stoy', of course.
BA>CK> The soundtrack, when heard by itself without having seen the
BA>CK> film, sounds a little different than past Disney fare. After you
BA>CK> see Hercules you understand the soundtrack a lot better. It's
BA>CK> based on black gospel / R&B / 50's-60's pop girl group/"Grease"
BA>CK> type music.
BA> I loved the songs, (How you call them? The ladies that where
BA> dressed in white? Since I saw it Spanish, the name I have for it is
BA> "Musas")
Exactamente, "Las Musas" == "The Muses"!
They were Greek goddesses who fortold the future, and in "Hercules" they
tell the story for us. The musical style is what we call "gospel", as
it is most commonly found in protestant churches, especially black
churches. (Does that answer your question?)
BA>CK> Music and original score by Alan Menken and lyrics by David
BA>CK> Zippel. On Usenet there is a strong rumor that Alan Menken is
BA>CK> leaving association with Disney and moving on to other things.
BA> Why?!
I don't know what Menken's reasons are, but I'm not really surprised.
Some of the music in "Hercules" sounds *very* familiar, and when I
compare the "Herc" soundtrack to the music from "Hunchback" and
"Aladdin", it seems like he is recycling the same themes. It sounds to
me like he has about burned out on music for animation, and needs to try
something else for a while to recharge his creative batteries.
Don't get me wrong, I like Menken's work and I like the music in
"Hercules", but he seems to have lost his freshness that is so
important. I wish him well, but I wish Disney would bring in some new
musical ideas.
BA> You know, persons I know are saying that the Japanese animators all
BA> draw eyes that don't look like Japanese eyes. The reason is, they
BA> got inspired by the way Disney draws the eyes.
I don't know if I believe that, entirely. Oriental eyes tend to be
smaller and harder to draw than big round eyes more often found on
occidental faces. With big eyes, it's easier to show emotions, too. I
think the Japanese animators are simply making sure they portray their
characters' emotions clearly.
BA> I have a strong recomendation from a friend that MIB is a great
BA> movie, and that he recomends Hercules and MIB for great movies.
"Men in Black" is the funniest film I've seen since "Mars Attacks." I
loved it! Wil Smith is great, and Tommy Lee Jones is the best
dramatic transfer to comedy since Leslie Nielson. I especially liked
the coffee-makers.
