Geo,
Sure, fileshares (with Windows, not sure about SUN) are easy to maintain,
if you move the contents of a directory to another place you should move
the fileshare as well. One more thing to do. Unfortunately not everything
is always as documented as it should be and especially after some time,
these things tend to be forgotten.
Moreover, broken links go often unnoticed, when unmonitored operations and
of course noone reads the logs...
It all depends on the question whether you want to invest in solving
problems or in preventing problems.
