Actually in defense of Chirnside, he is no longer whoring himself out for
sympathy points.

Remember how he used to carry on about his bad back or that supposed
stroke, not so much any more..

However he has gone out of the way to say he is no longer discussing
politics and then goes on to do so.

Even so, I suspect Waynes experience has humbled him, even if just a little
bit, he is far more subdued in tone compared to two years ago.
