| subject: | Lord/X available? |
> Was on the lordlegacy.com website looking for any word on a lord/x. Looking > in the news section, I see that 4.08 has a nix version, but only 4.07 was > avaialbe ATM. Was wondering if there's any news or offerings of any > released versions of lord/x. If so, can you please point me to it? Someone else may have already responded to your message. But in case they haven't, here's the situation. Back in September 2006, Preslar released one compilation of LORD 4.08 beta for DOS. And ones for OS/2, Linux, and 32-bit Windows. Because some people started distributing the beta lord archives on their own, he got mad and stopped allowing anyone to get betas of the Lord games. Or Metropolis Gameport won't allow public betas to be sent out perhaps. I've never learned which one is the most accurate reason for the situation. You can get a fully usable DOS LORD v4.08 beta archive from Jason Hud's BBS. Just look for his messages dated in November and December 2009 in either DoorGames or Lord echoes to see how to get the zip files. The one released in December only contains lord.exe. It fixes a problem that came up with Red Dragon kills. To the best of my knowledge, it is not possible to get v4.08 from anyone for OS/2, Linux or Windows/32. I have zero idea as to whether its possible to run LORD under MS Windows 7. I do know I've heard that its hard to run LORD or any other BBS door game under MS Vista from Daryl Stout. And I don't think you can use the LORD 32-bit stuff at all if your O.S. is 64-bit, but I'm not positive on that. The best thing one can do is to write to Preslar and ask him for betas. His email is mpreslar (at) lordlegacy.com if I remember right. Trouble is that he is not very likely to respond to you at all according to several people who have tried without success to get assistance from him. He is not active in Fidonet any more, so you can't reach him directly on Fidonet. As far as I know, you can get info on how to contact him from the lordlegacy.com web-site. Writing to Gameport for assistance with Lord problems is not going to get you anywhere. They just tell you to contact Preslar. And they have a seriously bad record lately regarding Lord registration purchases, or getting replacement registration codes. A lot of people on the fidonet echoes have talked about that situation. I hope that answered your question satisfactorily.
