Hmmm... there is no need for radials on a J-pole! That's one of the
beauties of the design. It's all above the base. The only counterpoise
it needs is in the short "J", which is actually a matching section. The
only reason I can think of to have radials on it would be if it were
either multiband, which isn't necessary, since most monitoring activity
is either around 150 or 450 MHz, which is the third harmonic of 150, and
J's work fine on 3rd harmonic. (I have used my 2 M J-pole on 70 CM with
great results). The only other reason I can think of to have radials on
a "J" is to make people THINK it's a better antenna than a "straight J"
so they can get more money for it.
