Your right about replacing the seal.  Chemical damage can actually
migrate through the latex a considerable distance from the point of
actual chemical contact.  This make it impossible to effectively repair
the latex because the molecular integrity is compromised which may not
have any apparent physical indicators (is that a twenty five dollar
sentence or what).
     Kepp wet and well.
