I have been a FidoNet node since the whole network was about 4000 nodes
and 99% of them were in zone one. I remember when a 13k nodediff was a
source of complete amazement. I have seen the development and invention
of offline readers, taglines, PID's, etc. My first BBS ran on two 170k
floppies.
Please support those who support digital signatures. Even when their uses
appear silly, or vain, or inept, or just ineffective.
We could throw away all the tag lines, origin lines, signature lines, ASCII
art,
and probably 3/4 of the messages without missing them... but is there a
substitute for the technology we're discussing? It's like asking if there's
substitute for envelopes. To paraphrase your own comment; it's a Future
Thing. Those who find them annoying are free to ignore them as others
of us ignore taglines & etc.
