DS> A similar deal is in the Amateur Radio rules, Title 47, Code of
DS> Federal Regulations, Part 97...where an amateur radio operator has
DS> "emergency or priority traffic" when: 1) The information involves
DS> the safety of life, or the protection of property.
DS> 2) The amateur radio operator is himself, "in distress"...or is
DS> assisting another station "in distress"...where no provision of the
DS> rules prohibits the amateur radio operator of making known his
DS> location, situation, and using whatever means is necessary to obtain
DS> assistance.
This makes perfect sense to me. My department has worked closely with Amateur
Radio Clubs for years during disasters and other emergencies. We even have a
plan for the Amateur Radio Clubs to handle our communications if our primary
methods are destroyed or go down for some other reason. We've worked together
many times, especially during storm season. Find a way to enjoy Florida just
a little bit.
