_We_ are not (all) "average users". And you don't need a decompression
program for self-extracting archives. Indeed, the "average user" wouldn't
necessarily know that THISPROG.EXE was a self-extracting archive as opposed
to a "real" executable, so an AV that can process it properly has a place in
the world.
