subject: salt in tank?????

LW> A local shop advised me to put a little kitchen salt in my freshwater
LW> tropical tank, is this recommended???
NEVER use regular kitchen salt. Regular salt has iodine in it that can kill
the fish. What you want to look for is NON-IODIZED salt. You can still find
it in the grocery store, usually right next to the iodized table salt. And,
yes, you always want to add some of this to a new tank. Add about a teaspoon
for each 10 gallons. And remember that the salt does not evaporate, so you
don't need to add any when you top off your tank. Just when you do a water
change.
