   There is no forced reboot.  Automatic download and install is only =
one of four options exposed in the Automatic Updates control panel.  A =
user that doesn't want this can chose for updates to be downloaded =
automatically but installed only when directed, downloaded and installed =
only when directed, or never downloaded automatically.  No regedit in =
sight.

     What kind of rendering program is this that it doesn't even do
  checkpoint saves periodically.?  Even one save per day would lose a
  miniscule amount of rendering time compared to losing all work due to
  someone tripping over the power cord or an extended power outage.

     Not that I think it lets Microsoft off the hook with its "gotta =
reboot
  unless you run regedit" policy.
