Watcom C++'s a cool scene. Dig it!

Watcom does indeed support DOS, in both real mode and protected
mode. Their compiler comes with the Tenberry DOS/4GW DOS extender,
royalty free, which allows the creation of 32 bit protected mode DOS
applications. This is the extender used for Doom, Duke3D and many
other games, as well as other software.
Version 11 of the compiler seems quite buggy, but you may be able to
get a used older version someplace. Or you may want to wait until they
release the patch for version 11. Either way, it's a good compiler
that can target many OS. I recomend it. (I use version 10.6.)
Another thing you might want to do is get DJGPP, a free compiler
ported to DOS protected mode from the GNU GCC compiler. It is
available all over the Internet, and its home is ftp.delorie.com. The
source code is also available.
