Hi Ron,
RM-->SA>Why is it that so many people fail to see the phenomenal benefits of
RM-->SA>programming. With such a simple set up, one can explore an intense
RM-->SA>discipline of logic, orderly thinking, refined argument and
creativity.
RM-->SA>All this is done without the need for great expense in replaceable
RM-->SA>supplies, cleanup or health hazard.
RM-->One could argue, however, that while students must certainly
RM-->be functional in math and english, and have at least a
RM-->nodding acquaintance with science, they could, in general,
RM-->survive quite nicely without being able to program.
RM-->Certainly SOMEONE has to know how, but it isn't needed by

Uhmmmm, Ron, I've heard that same argument used about teaching the
writing process. Surely someone needs to know how to write _______
(fill in the blank with; stories, poetry ect) Not everyone will be an
author. And it's true in the way they mean authorship. But what
happens when everyone writes is that everyone learns to write better.
With computers being so important in todays world and growing more
so, so it seems, Perhaps programming ought to have a role in
everyones education. Not pecause everyone needs to become programers,
but because everyone need the understandings that might result with
the tools that may play such a part in the world.
But, where, at what level, and to what degree is it needed ? Maybe
not till college huh?
Peace
Bob
