I did up a quick one-liner for a mate, once:

  command.com /c DIR/-P/V/S>>%TEMP%\DIR_LIST.TXT

Works in Win95 certainly; Win98, probably too.  Insert your favourite *.MP3
or whatever wildcard option after the DIR for specific target groups.
