I always thought that it was against the rules for a player
to be traded during a game -- to avoid the unlikely prospect
of a manager using an ineligible player in the game. I heard
that a game was kicked out and replayed in the 1950s when a
player was sent to the on-deck circle and as a result, the
pitcher was replaced. The guy in the on-deck circle was
called back to the dugout. Trouble was, he had been traded
to another team and the manager knew it. The manager defended
his actions by stating he had no intention of using the player.
But, announcing a player (by sending him to the circle) is the
same as using a player in a game, even if he doesn't actually
play.

Here's one for MLB rules committee - Joe Shlabotnik plays for
the Sox. He is in a game that has been suspended (for any
reason, rain, darkness, mutual agreement so someone can catch
a plane..), in which his Sox are playing the Yanks. The clubs
announce that the game will resume at noon on the first day
the Yanks return.

In the meantime, Joe is traded to the Yankees. Can he play
for the Yanks in the game when it is resumed? I doubt it
as no player can be returned to a game once he has been removed
In any way, shape or form -- but he wasn't removed.

Players have been traded between games of a doubleheader, but
I've never known of players playing for both sides in a suspended
game.
