Private schools have uniforms there? Wow, that's different. My children
started at a Christian school that had a good dress code, but they didn't
have a uniform. We parents were asked to purchase a school t-shirt for use on
class field trips (wonderful idea), but that was the only time they had a
"uniform". The dress code there allowed shorts only for the first two and
last two weeks of school (unless special permission was given during a hot
spell), no t-shirts with writing on them other than school shirts, girls
dresses had to be "so" long, no spaghetti straps, modesty, etc. No "flip
flops" on the feet....good solid shoes were required with sandals being ok
during warm months as long as they had a strap in back.
I also have taught in private school here in California. We had a dress code
that was similar only there were no pants or shorts allowed for girls except
on certain days. Girls wore dresses, boys wore pants and shirts that had
collars. Teachers' dress code for females was dresses (or skirt/blouse or
suit), pantyhose and heels! (I was instrumental in getting the "heels" part
changed to "flats fine". My doctor called the school and told the principal
he was leading himself to lots of workman's comp claims. The rule changed!)
I like a good dress code - since switching to public school, my girls have
had to endure "Mom's dress code" for school. My job would be simpler if the
schools here would adopt one!
The only private schools that I know of in the San Diego area that have
uniforms are Catholic schools.
