BL> Clever... that makes more sense than setting up a network. DD> Or does it? DD> A pair of 10/100Mbps NICs will cost no more than $80.00. A DD> short pice of CAT5 cable wired as cross over is about $10.00 DD> The Belkin USB file sharing doovie costs $149.00 (little box DD> and two cables). USB does 11Mbps, the network cards will do DD> 100Mbps (and full duplex). DD> The USB thing is only ever good for two machines, with a cheap DD> hub, or switch, the NICs will interconnect 4/8/16/24 machines I only want to hook up two machines... and Jaycar is selling a USB networking cable (with doovie) for $50. I am amazed that Flash USB memory works so well. I backed up all my data, and when I do a differential I just plug it in, and as quick as I can start BACKUP, the computer prugs and prays it, and does the whole thing (90 files and about 2Mb) in seconds! The sort of thing I'd want to do sharing two computers, would fall into that pattern. A complete share at some stage (and if it took ten minutes who cares, you only do it every blue moon), plus occasional access to files that are only a few Mbs anyway. I'm all set up to network, but I *still* haven't actually hooked them up. It means I have ot plug the cable in at both ends, and that might take me another year or so... but I bought the cable the other day (rather than rip out my CB coax). I'm also thinking about buying a notepad. That could take me a few years... I don't like to rush into things. I fixed the leak in the bathroom on Saturday. It wasn't leaking much... and in summer it dried out pretty quick. Bloody humidity in February!
