I spent some time with Perkins - - - in a bar. I honestly didn't have
much of an opinion of him before? Yeah, I think he was as real as they
get.

That made me think of Jim Dickinson (who coverd Carl with the "Dixie
Flyers"...Bu Jim did lots more! Or, "less"?

Does anyone know the name? http://tinyurl.com/7bd9c>
I tried to find a more complete bio as he did more than the link indicates.
Here's some of his work: http://tinyurl.com/bwxjm>

Well, he also produced a CD for a bunch of kids who (IMHO) "should have
been..." - Well, more than they were...Scruffy The Cat, out of Boston.
They sought him out as they wanted a producer with a minimalist touch
(oxymoron).

I was in the biz, did some promoting with their label & met the guy. He
described some techniques he employed to give the studio a "live" sound.
Everything from covering drum heads (I recall chamois skin?) to
breaking the "laws of studio acoustics".

He expresses as much as anyone some of that which I was trying to convey
when we were writing about producers & musicians in the studio. His
quote seems bassackwards but I think you'll get it?

"If you're not in the recording studio you might as well not do it,
because you might get it.
And if you get it, hell stop.
Because it's not a question of how well you play, it's a question of how
well you play once."
