JS> Good choice. I'm sorry, but arguments like "... I even own a few
JS> .40's, but shooting them just doesn't excite .45acp>..." are just oozing with prejudice. The .45acp is a great
chamber
ng,
JS> but it's not a magical holy godsend. The .40S&W easily outdoes it in
I was lurking in Firearems tech and came across that post from that
guy that said he "proves" that .45 is more powerful than 9mm by
putting a 9mm casing in a .45 case.
DUH!
More power in what? Muzzle energy? Pressure? Copper crusher value?
My next question is where did he get that good stuff he's been smokin?
Anohter one of my favorites is the "It doesnt have to expand."
Go to your local bookstore and look at a book about guns, the title
eludes me. Its a picture type book. This guy claims that by applying
the Topper Knock-out scale, desinged for big game hunting, he claims
that .45 FMJ is 88% more effective than any 9mm load.
What scares me is that people actually believe this garbage.
Sure, the Straussburg tests are controvercial, the gelatin tests, and
linear regression anayisis, are controvercial. No problem. But there
is a line when delusion comes into play.
Oh well. The rational of the dillatantes was never that complex in
the first place for obvious reasons.
JS> A hot loaded .40S&W can work wonders, as can a hot loaded .45acp. Two
JS> choices, same general performance. The USP however was made to easily
JS> take .45acp +p, which will out perform .40S&W in terms of ballistics.
I'd like to see some hot 175 grain silvertips in .40 S&W. Are you
aware that Winchester came out with silvertips for reloading?
It would make an interesting test to do a little mix and matching.
155 grain silvertip in 10mm and 175 grain silvertip in .40 S&W. 90
grain silvertip in .357, and the heavyer silvertips for .38 Special.
JS> I'll stick with the .40, which has very impressive performance even
 JS> out of a 3 " barrel.
What do you think of this new .400 Cor-bon load?
 JS> If I ever get a .45acp, unless it's a great deal on a good used gun,
 JS> it'll probably be a USP. :-)
JS> BTW- as you will find out, the USP's really shine in terms of managing
JS> felt recoil when you get into +p ammo in both .40 and .45.
I came across some 9mm maximum loading data. I am working on a
special load I am developing and I am definitly going to use a USP 9mm
as a test gun.
