When a service installs itself, it declares what other services it depends on. When the service starts, Windows starts the services it depends on first. This is probably what is happening. Disabled means Windows will not start it, and will return failure code to anything that attempts to start it. That is probably what you want. Take a look at the dependencies tab and see what other services depend on this one. Probably one of them is set to start automatically.
